ACT Research: Preliminary Used Class 8 Data for December 2020 Shows YTD Sales Up, With Average Price, Miles and Age All Lower

Preliminary used Class 8 volumes (same dealer sales) rose 11% month-over-month in December, and are 25% higher year-to-date compared to 2019, according to the latest preliminary release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks published by ACT Research. Compared to December of 2019, volumes gained 27%.

ACT Research: November Used Truck Metrics Show Average Prices Continued to Climb M/M, with Volumes, Average Miles and Age Down for the Same Time Period

According to the latest release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks, published by ACT Research, used Class 8 same dealer sales volumes, average miles and average age all declined m/m, down 22%, 2%, and 3%, respectively, compared to October. Longer term, same dealer sales volumes were up 21% year-to-date against the first 11 months of 2019, with average price, miles and age all below November 2019 ytd rates, down 10%, 3%, and 8%, respectively.

Compared to November of 2019, volumes gained 32%.

According to the latest release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks, published by ACT Research, used Class 8 same dealer sales volumes were up 20% year-to-date against the first ten months of 2019, with average price, miles and age all below October 2019 ytd rates, down 11%, 2%, and 8%, respectively. Near term, the report indicated that used Class 8 sales volumes and average miles both fell, down 4% and 1% m/m, respectively, while average age was flat sequentially and average price rose 6% compared to September.

Near term, the report also indicated that used Class 8 sales volumes rose, up 3% sequentially, with average price rising 2% month-over-month. Average miles and age were both flat compared to August.

Longer-term, volumes rose 51% compared to September 2019, and were up 21% when measured against the first nine months of last year.

Near term, the report also indicated that used Class 8 sales volumes rose, up 15% sequentially, with average price unchanged month-over-month, and average miles and age virtually flat, down 1% each, compared to June.
