Compared to November of 2019, volumes gained 32%.

According to the recently released N.A. Commercial Vehicle On-Highway Engine OUTLOOK, published by ACT Research and Rhein Associates, the US economy continues to improve, despite setbacks with increased COVID cases across the country. Additionally, the report noted that legislation toward zero emissions continues to grow, and both factors are influencing engine demand, as well as the commercial vehicle markets in general.

ACT Research: Preliminary NA Classes 5-8 Vehicle Orders Still Healthy
Preliminary NA Class 8 net orders in November were 51,900 units, up 33% from October and a 197% improvement from year-ago November. NA Classes 5-7 demand continued in-line with recent activity, at 27,200 units. That order volume represents a 9% decrease from October’s 30-month high, but was still up 78% compared to last year. Complete industry data for November, including final order numbers, will be published by ACT Research in mid-December.

ACT Research: October Used Truck Metrics Show Volumes Remain Up YTD, with Average Price, Miles and Age Down for the Same Time Period
According to the latest release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks, published by ACT Research, used Class 8 same dealer sales volumes were up 20% year-to-date against the first ten months of 2019, with average price, miles and age all below October 2019 ytd rates, down 11%, 2%, and 8%, respectively. Near term, the report indicated that used Class 8 sales volumes and average miles both fell, down 4% and 1% m/m, respectively, while average age was flat sequentially and average price rose 6% compared to September.

ACT Research's For-Hire Trucking Index Highlights Tight Supply-Demand Balance
The latest release of ACT’s For-Hire Trucking Index, with October data, showed a second consecutive month of record tightness. October’s Volume Index was flat at 70.7 (SA), while Pricing dropped two points to 69.2, but still a top-decile result. With capacity and driver availability in contraction territory, at 45.8 and 28.6, respectively, the combination of strong demand and tight supply pushed the Supply-Demand Balance to its tightest level in survey history, now at 74.9.

ACT Research: U.S. Trailer Net Orders Post Another Improvement in October
October net US trailer orders of 54,691 units posted another sequential improvement, up nearly 7% from September’s rise and well above October 2019’s level (up 70%). Before accounting for cancellations, new orders of 57k units were up 9% versus September and 52% better year-over-year, according to this month’s issue of ACT Research’s State of the Industry: U.S. Trailer Report.
