ACT Research's For-Hire Trucking Index Highlights Tight Supply-Demand Balance
The latest release of ACT’s For-Hire Trucking Index, with October data, showed a second consecutive month of record tightness. October’s Volume Index was flat at 70.7 (SA), while Pricing dropped two points to 69.2, but still a top-decile result. With capacity and driver availability in contraction territory, at 45.8 and 28.6, respectively, the combination of strong demand and tight supply pushed the Supply-Demand Balance to its tightest level in survey history, now at 74.9.

ACT Research: U.S. Trailer Net Orders Post Another Improvement in October
October net US trailer orders of 54,691 units posted another sequential improvement, up nearly 7% from September’s rise and well above October 2019’s level (up 70%). Before accounting for cancellations, new orders of 57k units were up 9% versus September and 52% better year-over-year, according to this month’s issue of ACT Research’s State of the Industry: U.S. Trailer Report.

ACT Research: Preliminary Information Shows the Trailer Industry Posted More Than 54k Net Trailer Orders In October; Third Highest Month in History
Preliminary information for October indicates that the US trailer industry booked 54,200 net orders for the month, up 6% from September and more than 68% better than the same month last year. Before accounting for cancellations, new orders crossed the 56k mark. Both new and net orders ranked as the third-best in industry history. Final volume will be available later this month. This preliminary market estimate should be within +/- 3% of the final order tally.

Preliminary NA Class 8 net orders in October were 38,900 units, up 27% from September and a 78% improvement from year-ago October. NA Classes 5-7 demand jumped to a ten-quarter high (March 2018) in October, to 29,300 units. That order volume represents an improvement of 6% from September and an 84% uptick compared to last year.
