Near term, the report also indicated that used Class 8 sales volumes rose, up 1% sequentially, with average price rising 5% month-over-month. Average miles and age both fell compared to July, down 1% and 3%, respectively.

ACT Research’s 63rd Seminar: New and Used CV Demand Discussed on Day Two, TCO & Societal Cost Calculator Announced
The second day of ACT Research’s three-day virtual Seminar 63 was held on August 12. Alternative fuels, including hydrogen and electric, to power commercial vehicles were on the agenda, as was consideration of the future for diesel engines. Industry experts’ opinions about efficiency, emissions, safety, connectivity, and regulations were some of the myriad of topics heard by the virtual audience. Additionally, ACT announced upgrades to its free, online total cost of ownership calculator, which now includes the societal costs in metric tons of CO2 per year. ACT Research: May Used Truck Metrics Show Volumes and Age Down M/M, Price and Miles Up
According to the latest release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks, published by ACT Research, used Class 8 same dealer sales volumes dropped 12% month-over-month in May, with longer-term sales down 20% year-over-year compared to May 2019. Sales through ytd May are up an incremental 2%. The report also indicated that used Class 8 average price and miles rose from April’s levels, up 2% and 1%, respectively, with average age 1% lower than the previous month. Longer term, average price, miles and age all contracted year-over-year, as well as year-to-date, down respectively from the first five months of 2019 by 16%, 2%, and 6%.

According to the latest release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks, published by ACT Research, used Class 8 same dealer sales volumes dropped 15% month-over-month in April, with longer-term sales dropping 7% year-over-year compared to April 2019, but holding onto an 8% year-to-date gain. The report also indicated that used Class 8 average price and miles fell from March’s levels, down 4% and 2%, respectively, with average age 2% higher than the previous month. Longer term, average price, miles and age all contracted year-over-year, as well as year-to-date, down respectively from the first four months of 2019 by 17%, 1%, and 5%.
